Our Secret Apple Pie Recipe
Ingredients
6 tablespoons butter, unsalted
2 tablespoons flour, all purpose
1/4 cup white sugar
1/2 cup brown sugar
2 tablespoons maple syrup
1 pinch salt
2-3 tablespoons water
1/4 teaspoon nutmeg
1/4 teaspoon ground cloves
1/4 teaspoon ground cinnamon
6-8 large baking apples, peeled, cored and thinly sliced
1 tablespoon lemon juice
2 packages ready-to-use pie crust
Instructions
Step 1
Preheat oven to 400°F. Melt butter and flour together in saucepan over medium heat. Stir in sugars, water and spices. Bring to a boil, stirring frequently. Let simmer.
Step 2
Mix apples with lemon juice. Press one pie crust into a 9-inch dish. Pile the apples into the crust. Spoon sugar mixture over apples. Unroll the second pie crust and cut into 8 one-inch strips and crisscross over the apples. Pinch crust to seal it.
Step 3
Bake for 15 minutes. Reduce heat to 350ºF and bake until crust is golden and apple filling is bubbling, about 35-40 min.
